Privacy Policy
1. Responsible Party
Responsible for data processing on this website is:
Geotrend GmbH
Industriestrasse 12
6010 Kriens
Switzerland
If you have any questions about data protection, you can reach us at any time via our contact form.
2. Our Principle
We deliberately avoid advertising, marketing cookies and any form of personal tracking. This website embeds no social media widgets and passes no data on for advertising purposes. We only process what is necessary for technical operation, for actions you initiate yourself (e.g. contact form) and for anonymous, cookie-free visitor statistics.
We generate our visitor statistics ourselves, using the open-source software Plausible on our own server in Switzerland (section 5). A single external service is involved. The map in the quote form loads its map tiles from a Swiss federal server (section 7).
Below we list every single component that touches data, and explain what, why and how long.
3. Access Log
Component: The web server of our hosting provider (see section 8, Hosting).
What is logged:
- IP address of the requesting device
- Date and time of the request
- Requested page
- Response status and approximate response size
- Referrer URL (where the visitor came from, if sent by the browser)
- Browser and operating system identifier (user agent)
Why: Such a log is indispensable for operation, security and troubleshooting. It helps us detect attacks, diagnose outages and keep the site stable and performant.
Retention: The logs accrue on the systems of our hosting provider and are deleted there on a regular cycle. We only analyse them when there is a specific reason, such as investigating an attack or an outage.
Legal basis: Legitimate interest in stable, secure operation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; Art. 31(1)(c) Swiss revDSG).
4. Cookies
We set only technically necessary first-party cookies. There are no third-party cookies and no tracking cookies.
Nothing is stored for the language choice. The language is contained solely in the URL path (/kontakt versus /en/contact). The language cookie used previously no longer exists.
| Name | Purpose | Validity |
|---|---|---|
PHPSESSID |
Web server session cookie. Holds e.g. CSRF tokens for forms to prevent abuse. | Until browser is closed |
cookie_consent (LocalStorage, not a cookie) |
Remembers that you dismissed the cookie notice banner so it does not reappear. | Permanent until you clear browser storage |
theme (LocalStorage, not a cookie) |
Stores your preference for light or dark mode (light, dark). Without this entry the appearance follows the time of day. |
Permanent until you clear browser storage |
plausible_ignore (LocalStorage, not a cookie) |
Excludes this browser from the visitor statistics (section 5). Only set if you activate the exclusion yourself on our opt-out page. | Permanent until you clear browser storage |
All of these stored values are either technically necessary or serve solely your convenience on this specific website. None of them is transmitted to third parties.
5. Web Analytics
For our visitor statistics we use the open-source software Plausible Analytics (Community Edition), self-hosted on our own hardware at our premises in Switzerland. No external analytics service is involved; the statistics script itself is served by our own infrastructure.
What is collected: Aggregated values only. This covers pages viewed, approximate origin (country, region), referrer or campaign parameters, browser and device type, and clicks on external links. Your IP address is not stored. It is only used transiently to distinguish visits within a single day (a hashing method with a random value that changes daily and is deleted afterwards). Recognising a visitor across several days is therefore impossible.
Why Plausible: Plausible is open source and deliberately operates without cookies and without persistent visitor IDs. Individual persons are not re-identified or tracked across days. Only aggregated values are stored (page views per URL, approximate region of origin, referrer). The French data protection authority CNIL has classified Plausible, in this configuration, as not requiring consent.
Where the data resides: All analytics data resides on our own hardware at our premises in Switzerland and never leaves our facilities. No transmission to Plausible Cloud or any other third party takes place.
Legal basis: Legitimate interest in anonymous reach measurement of our website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; Art. 31(1) Swiss revDSG). Since no cookies are set and no personal data is stored, no consent is required.
You can also exclude yourself from being counted. A single click on our opt-out page is enough. The exclusion is stored as an entry in your browser's LocalStorage (see the table in section 4).
6. Contact Form
What is processed: The details you actively enter. These are your name, email address, phone number (optional) and your message. To prevent spam, your IP address is also transmitted with the request.
Why: We need these details to respond to your enquiry. The IP address is used solely to detect and block automated spam submissions.
Retention: Your enquiry is retained as long as needed for processing or any resulting business relationship, at most within the scope of legal retention obligations (typically 10 years for tax-relevant correspondence, otherwise shorter).
Legal basis: Performance of pre-contractual measures at your request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR; Art. 31(2)(a) Swiss revDSG).
7. Embedded External Content
This website embeds no social media content, advertising scripts, tracking pixels or external fonts. Fonts, icons and the map library (MapLibre GL) are served exclusively from our own server. No data flows to advertising networks such as Google, Meta, LinkedIn, etc. Our visitor statistics (section 5) also run entirely on our own infrastructure. There is one exception, the map described below.
The map in the quote form.
On the request a quote page we show a map on which you draw your perimeter. The map tiles (national map and aerial imagery) are loaded directly from wmts.geo.admin.ch, the map service of the Swiss Federal Office of Topography swisstopo. When you open that page your IP address is therefore transmitted to swisstopo, along with information about which map sections you are viewing. No cookie is set in the process. No other page loads this map.
8. Hosting
This website is hosted by a Swiss hosting provider whose servers are located in a data centre in Switzerland. The access data described in section 3 therefore remains entirely in Switzerland and is subject to Swiss data protection law (revDSG). The hosting provider processes it on our behalf. Our actual project and customer data also resides in Switzerland, on our own infrastructure separate from this web server.
